CU REUNITES HER THREE CAMPUSES; AS SHE HONORS USAID MISSION DIRECTOR AND LIBERIA'S CULTURE AMBASSADO

As a way of cultivating and promoting the spirit of oneness and unity at Cuttington University, the Department of Institutional Advancement during last weekend organized a four-day weekend event. The event which was held under the theme: "Scorpions Connect," was intended to cultivate as well as bring back the spirit of togetherness and connection among alumnae of the institution, reunite the University's three campuses; CU Undergraduate School, CU Junior College, and the CU Graduate School of Professional Studies, and to reactivate the traditional social and athletic clubs that have long existed at the institution.

According to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Mr. A. Orea Wright, Cuttington University is a very great institution in Liberia; therefore, it was important to keep the scorpion's spirit of oneness and unity alive at the University. He maintained, "Though Cuttington University has three different campuses and locations, but it is just one university."

The "Scorpions Connect" weekend activity which was interspersed with series of soccer and basketball matches and live cultural and drama performances, also highlighted the honoring of both Liberia's Culture Ambassador and USAID Mission Director. According to the CU President, Dr. Herman Beseah Browne, who presented the certificates of honor during the ceremony, the honoring of these distinguished personalities was based on their enormous contributions made towards the growth and development of the Liberian society. Particularly, recounting USAID's tangible contributions and outstanding tie with


University, Dr. Browne asserted, "USAID has been a very good friend of Cuttington University. It has always been very a supportive partner of the institution in many crucial ways." He noted that USAID has physically and visibly made significant impacts on the institution; therefore, it was expedient for the institution to recognize their tremendous efforts made towards the advancement of Cuttington University."

Meanwhile, receiving the distinct honors, both Ambassador Julie Endee and USAID Mission Director, Dr. Anthony (Tony) S. Chan expressed their profound gratitude to the Cuttington University's family for the high level of recognition given them in the society. They further promised to continue to serve the purpose of humanity by continuously providing the necessary humanitarian supports needed to impact the lives of many in the Liberian society. In addition, both the Liberian Culture Ambassador and USAID Mission Director pledged their unwavering support and commitment to maintaining a life-long friendship with Cuttington University.

In a related development, the Administration of Cuttington University through the Department of Institutional Advancement in collaboration with the Cuttington University Alumni Association during the weekend donated several food items to citizens of Sinyea Community, a town which is situated just next to the university's main campus in Suakoko, Bong County. Items donated included rice and vitae cubes amongst others. Making the donations during a grand parade which was led by the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Mr. A. Orea Wright; and comprised of some members of the alumni association, it was revealed that the donations were done as a good-will gesture by Cuttington University.

Presenting the donated items on behalf of the university, the VPIA stressed that it was quite important to identify with the community since they all one way or the other contribute to the growth and development of the institution. He however alluded to the fact that it is the primary responsibility of Cuttington University to always identify with the community, noting "When this is done on a regular basis, the community often feels a part of the institution."

The Institution Advancement's boss further asserted that it is the fervent hope of Cuttington University to always maintain a courteous relationship with the nearby towns and villages that are closely situated around the university main campus. In his own words, "Cuttington University cares a lot about your welfare; owing to the fact that you all contributed immensely towards the establishment of the institution." Mr. Wright concluding by extending the university's President's greetings to citizens of the Sinyea Community. He at the same time reminded the citizens of Dr. Browne's support and willingness to work closely with them in every possible way so as to maintain cordiality between them and Cuttington University.
